Shpadoinkle The Making of Cannibal! The Musical
Shpadoinkle The Making of Cannibal! The Musical
This "Making of" book takes the reader on a journey with producer Jason McHugh as he embarks on a quest to create the soon to be cult movie, Cannibal! The Musical with his college buddies Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with a first class crew of CU Boulder film geeks.
The tales and lessons don't end with the film's completion, as McHugh lays out steps taken to get press coverage, crash the film festival scene, find representation, land a TV Pilot and eventually get distribution. The reader gets front row seats to McHugh's theatrical "Four Wall" campaign and the journey involved in taking the property to live stages around the globe.
This anecdotal adventure offers stories and advice for the up and coming creative doer as well as the need to know-it-all fan who just wants to hear some bloody old stores from back in the days before South Park blew up Hollywood.

If you are interested in film making, especially if you are young and want to get into festivals, this book is a must read. I learned a lot I wish I had known back in college. From the importance of learning every aspect of the production process to having fun and not taking yourself too seriously. Consider your peers' and mentors' views while keeping your vision. Work, work, work on those da-n movies because you will only get better with every project as long as you learn from your mistakes. (Mistakes you will be making less of after reading this book!)
Read the book, enjoy the history as a "Cannibal" fan, but most importantly have fun and learn about the creative process along the way. Jason even includes friendly tips and quotes to inspire. He writes all about the experience with great stories you likely haven't heard. Even if you are not interested in film making you will still find it smart and laugh out loud funny. Somehow Jason even manages to make the business side of the book entertaining, which is quite impressive considering how much of a bore that stuff can be. He presents the lessons without tons of jargon so instead of getting lost in the B.S. you are flowing through each chapter.
Kick back in the hot tub, grab some beef, crack open a beer and read this effing book; if only for the great fart and acid jokes!
It was cool reading all of the behind-the-scenes stuff! Thanks for this:)
The book arrived quickly and in great condition. I'm looking forward to reading it soon.
Being a huge fan of Cannibal! The Musical, I really enjoyed this book. It’s a great insight into the behind-the-scenes, like a long “making of” documentary. Very happy I purchased this!
